Walks & Trails

Explore the rich landscape and dramatic views across the Orange NSW region on foot or bicycle. Discover diverse landscape including tranquil waterways, pine forest and European trees, unusual rock formations, snow gums and candle bark, bursts of wildflowers and evidence of a thriving Aboriginal culture. There is also much native fauna, including rosellas, cockatoos, lorikeets, grey kangaroos, wombats and so much more.

The landscape is ever-changing thanks to the four distinct seasons Orange weather experiences. During springtime, find yourself surrounded by orchards of sweet, white cherry blossoms giving way to golden summer days accompanied by a chorus of cicadas. The town is famed for its blazing autumn colour, and winter sees the region embracing frosty mornings and if we are lucky a blanket of snow!

Get some fresh air with an invigorating mountain walk. Mount Canobolas is especially magical in winter. Hear the muffled crunch of snow underfoot and the tinkling of snow-capped gums in the breeze, and look for wombat tracks and burrows. Or try a bushwalk at Federal Falls and be rewarded for your efforts with spectacular views.

There are no end of heritage trails to be found in the region. Try a self-guided walking tour for a step back in time and see how life was for generations past. See beautifully preserved historic buildings and learn local folklore.

The mountains, lakes and patchwork fields of green and gold also make a perfect backdrop for a cycle. Whether you are looking for a leisurely or more challenging ride, there are routes to suit racing cyclists, mountain bikers or those looking for a casual, family-friendly ride.

A lovely cycle route is the scenic trail which leads past the Pinnacle Lookout, with Orange wineries, restaurants and cafes en route. Or try the popular loop trail out to Forest Reefs, hard to beat on a crisp, sunny day as you enjoy the picturesque countryside.
